Straight Talk Touchscreen Android Samsung Galaxy Proclaim Review

The Straight Talk Samsung Proclaim is a mid level Android of excellent quality that will suit even the most demanding user. What we really like about this phone is that it is way more powerful than the first few Straight Talk Android introductions yet is still very affordable with a sub $200 price tag. Interestingly, this is a brand new model made just for Straight Talk so it's not a rehash from another carrier. As with the other Straight Talk Andoroid offerings, the Samsung Proclaim is CDMA. Phone Look and Feel

The Samsung Proclaim features a prototypical 3.5" screen that's ever so popular on the compact Androids. This is the perfect sized Android in our humble opinion as it fits perfectly in the hand and fits perfectly in the pocket. The phone is quite attractive, has a very iPhone 3gs look to it with it's chrome trim surrounding the screen. The touch sensitive Android buttons are excellent and quite responsive. They also give the phone a very slick and smooth feel to it.

A tour around the phone reveals the typical Menu, Home, Back Search buttons in that order just below the screen. These buttons are of the resistive touch type instead of the physical push type. On the right, we find the power/lock button which is unusual as this is found at the top on most phones. To the left we find volume toggle/sd card slot, the top is home to head phone jack and the bottom has the charge/data port. All in all, this is an easy to use design that's nicely laid out.

Features

The Samsung Proclaim is strong on features. Because the phone has a 1ghz processor, it has absolutely no problem running apps. In fact, this phone is essentially 2x as powerful than the fist set of Android Straight Talk phones.

As with all Androids, Standard features include Google maps, Full HTML browser, Swype keyboard, Digital camera, MP3 music, SD card slot and more. Being a Samsung, this phone also includes the Samsung TouchWiz interface which is very nice and easy to use. Also noteworthy is the Stand Alone GPS which does not rely on network signal like the lower end location based Androids. For the price this is an excellent device for the money with plenty of power and excellent features.

Conclusion

The Samsung Proclaim is an excellent device for the money. It's certainly the most advanced Android at this price range offered by Straight Talk. For not much more extra money you get a lot more power and usability over the entry level Straight Talk Androids. We really liked the excellent features and power offered by the phone. It quickly became one of our favorite Straight Talk devices.
